SailGP coming to Lyttelton Harbour

Lyttelton Harbour is to be showcased to a global broadcast audience when it hosts the SailGP in January 2022. The event see’s international SailGP teams race against each other in identical hydrofoiling catamarans.

New Zealand’s first entry in the event will be lead by Olympic and world champions Peter Burling and Blair Tuke. They will compete against Great Britain, Australia, the United States, Japan, France, Denmark and Spain.

The inaugural SailGP event was hosted in Sydney and was watched globally on tv by an audience of 256 million, with an estimated $35 million impact on the cities economy.

This is great news for the city of Christchurch and we are excited to see sailing of this caliber on our doorstep.
